WTF is HEVC?

High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) or H.265 is a new draft video compression standard and the successor to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding). Under development by the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group and ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group, HEVC is designed for encoding (converting) and decoding (playing) video streams that can be stored and delivered more efficiently and economically. Simply put, HEVC can deliver the same visual quality as H.264 with about half the bitrate.
As of today, HEVC is officially ratified by the ITU Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). And since we’re one of the leaders in digital video, we have already been working on developing the next-generation DivX video profile based on this new H.265-based standard (get a refresher on existing DivX profiles). Once deployed in software and licensed to consumer electronics companies, we’ll be among the first to deliver tools to create HEVC content and DivX Certified devices on which to play it back. Our gdgt Live and SXSW Recap

The first gdgt live tour event was a gadget lovers dream. Everywhere you looked there were gadget enthusiasts and companies showing off their latest hi-tech goods. The gdgt live kickoff event was last week during SXSW in Austin, TX and DivX was there showing off some of the latest gadgets that play DivX video (including DivX HD networked Blu-ray players, the Samsung Omnia II phone and the 500Gb DivX HD Seagate media player), handing out t-shirts and giving away free copies of our brand new DivX Plus Software.
We had a blast catching up with DivX users face-to-face and geeking out about the latest products. Needless to say, we can’t wait for the next event. DivX is a proudly sponsoring the gdgt live tour that is traveling all across America, so keep an eye out for a stop near you.

Introducing the All New DivX Plus Software

In January, we announced our plans to bring DivX TV to consumer electronic devices. As cool as DivX TV is however, it isn’t the only project we have been working on. For the past year, we have also been working hard on the latest version of DivX Software. We have redesigned our bundle from the ground up to include more features, a new interface, and a simpler method for transferring videos to your DivX Certified devices. We call it DivX Plus Software.
Check out some of the new features that we are including in this new bundle after the break: Continue reading “Introducing the All New DivX Plus Software”
