There’s a fever spreading in the DivX offices and it’s infecting more and more of us each day. Fortunately, it’s World Cup fever and much of the globe has it too. Our demo room has turned into World Cup central, showing the games in the morning and lunchtime—for those of us in the San Diego, CA headquarters—and it’s been getting crazy.
Like many kids in the US, I grew up playing soccer (sorry, football/fútbol?), but watching soccer games on TV has never been much of a pastime. Turns out, I was just watching with the wrong people. Watching games with co-workers from Italy, Brazil, Switzerland, Spain, France, South Africa and more has been amazing. The passion is contagious and the games have been thrilling (okay, it’s still not thrilling to see a 0-0 tie, I’m sorry).
And while I still hear the incessant buzzing of the vuvezelas when I’m not watching the games, it’s worth it. I can even almost forgive the guy that brought those insane horns into the office.
